If you are looking to support an older Vaux product, you first need to get the model number AND suffix from the rear-panel label (eg: LE-800A-01). Then you need to scan below to find the correct generation (vintage) of switcher. For example, the -01 generation of Vaux models was produced from Aug 2002 to Feb 2005, and the related manuals and final firmware versions are in the specific section below. Firmware is NOT compatible between generations, even for the same switcher model, as internal controllers differ.

Files for Vaux manuals, and other documents, are generally in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format. PDF files may or may not display when clicked, depending on your browser setup. You can save these files to disk with a right-click (Save-Link/Target As). Free PDF readers are available from Adobe.

Mar 2010 to present -- Lattis -10X generation:

A new controller board and firmware 10.0 adds system features and new models, primarily to support new audio systems that use 1-dB volume steps (was 2-dB steps). RS-232 Protocol 10.0 is improved and runs at the same standard rate of 38400-baud. New commands (volume, midrange, eq-parametrics...) are added to support new audio features. Since the audio command/message parameter changes (for 1-dB steps) affect a major portion of the interface, an entirely new protocol is defined (using *LW command headers). However, the previous commands (which use *CW command headers) are virtually all implemented as well in version 10.0 -- this means that drivers written for version 7.x/6.x systems will operate properly with version 10.x Lattis switchers.

The same functional family of switchers is available in the same sizes as the previous -02X generation, but model names change to reflect the new audio boards: the new LE-808A replaces the LE-800A, the new LE-1616A replaces the LE-1600A, etc. Also, the model prefixes of the CAT5 switchers are changed to better distinguish them from the standard models.

Apr 2009 to Feb 2010 -- Lattis -02X generation:

Lattis -02X systems are functionally identical to -02 systems, but an internal controller change dictated a new version of firmware -- the firmware for -02 and -02X systems is NOT compatible.

Continuing family members (upgraded to -02X controller in Apr 2009):
LE-800A (1999-2010) 8x8 audio switcher
LE-1600A (1999-2010) 16x16 audio switcher

A historical note: Feb 2010 saw the final shipments of the Lattis LE-800A and LE-1600A audio switchers. These two models have been in the Vaux lineup since 1999 -- at eleven years of production (albeit with improvements along the way), the 800A and 1600A set the record for Vaux model longevity.

This generation of Lattis systems used downloadable system firmware; the final version is available below, should you need to update a field unit (instructions are included in the zip file). This firmware can be downloaded only into this generation of systems, which are identified by a -02X suffix after the model number on the rear-panel label (eg: LE-800A-02X).

Mar 2005 to Mar 2009 -- Lattis -02 generation:

A new controller board and firmware 7.0 added system features and new models. RS-232 Protocol 7.0 was improved and ran at the same standard rate of 38400-baud. Some new commands (paging, presets...) were added, but ALL of the version 6.x protocol was implemented in version 7.0 -- this means that drivers written for version 6.0 systems worked fully with version 7.x Lattis switchers.

Continuing family members (upgraded to -02 controller in Mar 2005):

Note that some of these family members lasted many years, over several generations of controller boards (the firmware of which is not compatible). The model generation is identified by a -XX model suffix on the rear-panel label.

This generation of Lattis systems used downloadable system firmware; final versions are available below, should you need to update a field unit (instructions are included in the zip file). This firmware can be downloaded only into this generation of systems, which are identified by a -02 suffix after the model number on the rear-panel label (eg: LE-800A-02).

Aug 2002 to Feb 2005 -- Lattis -01 generation:

A new controller board and firmware 6.0 added system features and new models. RS-232 Protocol 6.0 was improved and ran at a standard rate of 38400-baud. Most of the 6.x commands were compatible with prior version 4.x/5.x systems, but many new commands were added, and a few commands and messages were tweaked. Previous version 4.x/5.x control system drivers needed a baud-rate change and some minor changes to work with version 6.x systems.

Continuing family members (upgraded to -01 controller in Aug 2002):
LE-800A (1999-2010) 8x8 audio switcher
LE-1600A (1999-2010) 16x16 audio switcher
LE-1600V (1999-2006) 16x16 composite-video switcher

Note that some of these family members lasted many years, over several generations of controller boards (the firmware of which is not compatible). The model generation is identified by a -XX model suffix on the rear-panel label.

This generation of Lattis systems used downloadable system firmware; final version 6.8 is available below, should you need to update a field unit (instructions are included in the zip file). This firmware can be downloaded only into this generation of systems, which are identified by a -01 suffix after the model number on the rear-panel label (eg: LE-800A-01).

Jan 1999 to Jul 2002 -- Lattis family debut, & 2nd-generation Aris family:

Lattis family members were introduced in 1999, and the Aris family was improved in this generation. All Lattis/Aris systems could be controlled by infrared and/or (new) RS-232 commands. An entirely new RS-232 Protocol 4.0 was introduced, and ran at 9600-baud. This command/message language simplified control system programming by introducing more powerful commands, and using decimal parameters (instead of hex). The firmware version also dictated protocol level, since new commands were added periodically from version 4.00 through version 5.22. Previous version 3.xx control system drivers were incompatible with version 4.x/5.x systems.

New Lattis family members:
LE-800A (1999-2010) 8x8 audio switcher
LE-1600A (1999-2010) 16x16 audio switcher
LE-1600V (1999-2006) 16x16 composite-video switcher
LE-800AV (1999-2007) 8x8 audio/composite-video switcher

New Aris MediaMation family members:
AR-510 (1999) 8x8 audio/composite-video switcher
AR-520 (1999) 8x8 audio/composite-video switcher (with added RF control)
AR-508A (2000-2001) 8x8 audio switcher
AR-516A (2000-2001) 16x16 audio switcher
AR-508AV (2000-2001) 8x8 audio/composite-video switcher

Note that some of these family members lasted many years, over several generations of controller boards (the firmware of which is not compatible). The model generation is identified by a -XX model suffix on the rear-panel label.

This generation of Lattis and Aris systems used downloadable system firmware, and final versions are available below, should you need to update a field unit (instructions are included in the zip file). This firmware can be downloaded only into this generation of systems, which are identified by NO suffix after the model number on the rear-panel label (eg: LE-800A).

1993 to 1998 -- Aris MediaMation A/V switchers, & Altrix and Marc control systems:

The original VauxProtocol RS-232 control language debuted on Aris 700 and Marc II systems. This protocol used ascii-encoded-hex parameters, and ran at 9600-baud. The firmware version dictated the protocol level, and new commands were periodically added.

Aris MediaMation (A/V switching and IR-learning) family members:
Aris 700 (1994-1998) 8-audio/4-video sources, 6-audio/4-video zones, RC-8-RF, and/or RS-232 control (no IR control)
Aris 720i (1996-1998) added infrared control using RC-8-IR remotes
Aris 710 (1997-1998) 8x6 audio-only switcher had IR and 232 control (no RF control)

IR/RF/232/X10 control system (no a/v switching) family members:
Marc II (1994-1996)
Altrix 3000 (1996-1998)
Altrix 3400 (1998)

Early stuff:
RC-1 RF remote (1993-1995)
MARC 1070 (1993-1995) RF remote control IR-learning system
CON-1 RF console (1994)
RC-8 RF remote (1996-1999)
MARC Plus 1080 (1996-1998) RF remote control IR-learning system
KP-1 keypad systems (1997-1998) were used with IR-capable Aris and Altrix units

The original generation of Aris and Altrix systems used downloadable system firmware -- final version 3.15 is available below, should you need to update a field unit (instructions are included in the zip file).
